Its a good idea, let them get uste to throwing shots before they get to use the big weapons. But by doing this we be indirectly discerging people from fighting. When I was in the SCA they told me I could not fight with a sear, because I didn't know how to use a sword and board. I was some what discerged by this concept and didn't want to fight as much any more. If this rule is put in to effect we should explane that is for safety reasons and not that we are just being asses.

It is a good idea but i also agree with jesus(Happy b day man). i think that noobs should learn basic combat skills before handeling a large weapon but it may upset and offened them to not be able to use a red. i think they should have some one who uses reds on a constant basis help them learn the weapon so they can use it by the third practice not just say you cant use that cause you are new to the sport.

The distinition may be between letting someone use weapons in field battles and on the side lines. There's not going to be much difference in a new player and a third timer swingin a red if they've never been able to get any practice or guidance in the proper use of a weapon. Guidance and communication is what its all about.
I think a new player shouldnt be able to use anything except a blue-- at most two blues florentine style. This not only lets them get used to battle but keeps them from having to remember all the rules at once. All they have to keep straight is what their weapons do to other people and what other weapons do to them.
I dont think anyone should even touch a bow until some major instruction. Back in the day we had to take a certification test-- I think thats overkill myself but archery is certainly one of the most dangerous parts of our sport.
I also like the rule that if you're not wearing garb you can only use a single blue. If it looks like a newb treat it like a newb i say-- guaranteed to get your realm lookin SHARP!!!

I'll be bringing these topics up at the next Board meeting. Which may be this week. Thank you for sharing your opinions guys, it's appreciated.
BTW, there will be a Mordor Council meeting at my place sometime in late May. Everyone is welcome to attend and share your thoughts/ideas on making Mordor a better realm. Unit reps and the mercenary rep will be the only ones voting (if we even have something to vote on, we usually don't.)
Speaking of which, we need the mercenary [members who are not in a unit] fighters in Mordor to decide on their representative before the council meeting.
We will also be discussing[glow=red,2,300]Ragnarok[/glow] The traveling, camping, fighting, volunteering, etc. I will post the date and time for the council meeting when it gets decided.
If you guys have anything you want brought up at the council meeting, please post about it here. That way the board members can have a chance to talk about it ahead of time.

As far as reds go, that was my first weapon when I started fighting in Dur-D. True there were many less shields to be broken, so the chance for out of control swings was lessened then. As far as bows go, we still require that an archer be trained by another archer and approved by a herald before entering the field with bow and arrows. This is to ensure the new archer is aware of the rules concerning archery as well as being able to apply them and judge distances for safety reasons.
