Colorado Medieval Festival(c) NEWSLETTER
December 2004
Greetings everyone!
We had a wonderful meeting last evening, December 7, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
We wish to offer a special to Eric Medved and family for allowing us the use of their home.
77 W Broadmoor Drive, Littleton, CO 80120. (720) 629-3642
Next meeting Date and time: January 4th, 2004 at 7:00 pm, same location.
First of all, let’s introduce our new guests. Representatives from Dagorhir Group; Tiffany Dembrek, Andy Hegect and Julieane Davis and from Feral Horde, Jal Staples. Also David Morgan and Joshua Thomas from the Rouges Guild. All are excited about what we are doing with Colorado Medieval Festival(c) and will be getting back to us on how their groups will want to be involved. The Dagorhir group has already volunteered to work with Ed and Matt on the Great Gate that will grace the entry of the festival.
Ed & Tess, Eric (the host), Betty St. Clair, Chuck Ryan, Eric Marshall and I (Roger Gomez) were also present. Bad news Good news! Jim Brown has had to step down from Media and Promotions because of a heavy load of work that has come upon him, but he contacted Cheryl Donze who has agreed to step up to the plate and pick up for him and us. She was also in attendance. Thanks Cheryl.
By the way, if I missed anyone or misspelled a name or two, I am sorry, just let me know.
Now down to business. We are assembling an “Ad Rate Sheet” for the program. I have some ideas on this and Cheryl will be getting back to me in the next day or two. She (Cheryl) will also be working on obtaining sponsorships, which Jim was working on, to help fund the necessary marketing of the event. As soon as we get this information together, I will get it out to everyone.
Ed and Matt will be getting in touch with everyone on the construction of the Great Gate, the when, where and so forth. By the way, Tess brought a rich dish for everyone to enjoy while at the meeting. Thanks Tess.
Eric (Castle Wall Productions) and his group had been working very hard to get their presentation ready for the Colorado Medieval Festival(c) as well as getting the word out though the group. They also made mention of the event in their newsletter again. Thanks Eric.
We also missed the representatives (Mark and Teresa Sherwin) from the SCA, I will get in touch with them to see what happened. This event will be a great way to introduce the general public to the wonderful opportunities offered by all the groups and guilds involved with Colorado Medieval Festival(c).
The Foothills Rotary Club of Fort Collins has agreed to man the parking lot or lots for Colorado Medieval Festival(c). A little fundraising opportunity for them (parking fees) and helps us by not having to worry about that part of the event.
The “Art Contest” is off and running. I have already been getting calls on the event and a lot of interest. It is open to all ages with categories in Elementary, Jr. High, High School and Adults. The entry forms are available at
www.ColoradoCastle.com and click on “Art Contest”.
Merchants are as starting to call and inquire about the event. We have ads running in the Denver Post, the Coloradoan and Renaissance Magazine. “Call for Crafters”.
Colorado Medieval Festival(c) promises to be an exciting event with the quality of artisans, crafters and others that have begun to contact us.
The event Program will have informative articles written by knowledgeable writers, educational bits on the middle ages. All submissions should be sent to ProgramEditor@coloradocastle.com. Each article will range between 250 to 800 words and include cited authorities. A special thanks to Judith Kane (one of the eminent authors for Renaissance Magazine) for taking on the responsibilities of handling the editing of the articles and managing the writers.
The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program a CSU program has voiced an interest in doing an educational program at the festival. They will be getting back to us in the next few days.
We are still awaiting word from the City of Fort Collins on the use of one of the city parks, specifically the north end of Lee Martinez Park for Colorado Medieval Festival(c). Ken Mannon, Director of Operations and Bill Whirty, Parks and Rec Operation Supervisor are for us holding the event in the city. The main complaint lies with the cities Department of Natural Resources. Something about disturbing birds nesting during that time of year. If you want to contact Ray Martinez, Mayor of the city and give your two cents worth, the number is 221-6878 to the City Council including the mayor. Otherwise we will have a real estate broker ready to get us some land to host the event on.
Well that’s all for now.
Next meeting Date and time: January 4th, 2004 at 7:00 pm.
