Got this Email from Sven of Appelgorod;
The Springtime Market of Skalby Calls Heroes & Crofters together.
Please RSVP since I need to create a Gate List!!!!! (that means let me know ahead of time that you’re coming for all you Orcs out there!)
Gather one & all for the Viking Age Living History Encampment at the California Lutheran University's Scandinavian Festival. April 9th & 10th (Saturday & Sunday) 2005 from 9:00 am to 5:30pm each day with set-up starting on Friday April 8th. There will be fighting & feasting, looting & laughter! Svenbjorn Ingvesson invites you to join in the Skaldby (pronounced Schald-a-boo) Market & Althing. Show your prowess at arms & arts. Prizes will be awarded. Every re-enactor who participates in the Encampment will be given a gift.
The Festival as a whole has entertainment on the main stage, Tivoli garden for the wee-folk, Traditional foods, vendors & art exhibits for everyone as well as the Viking Encampment. The Sami Encampment & the knife-makers will be our neighbors. Eslpeth’s Designs, Thrudr's Weavings, & Wheat-weavers will be our in-camp vendors, but more are welcome. Pound-Iron will be there. Please note, In the Encampment area Non-period equipment, such as camp-stoves, lawn-chairs, etc must be hidden or removed to the parking area between the hours of 8:30am & 5:30pm. In the Fighting area, this is less rigorous due to armour requirements etc, but as period a presentation as possible is desired. Tourneys & events at the Viking Encampment: 9:15 am Saturday: All Vikings assemble for Opening Ceremonies commencing with pilfering the Dignitaries Breakfast for Pastries & Potables. Then we march down with weapons drawn to the main stage where we celebrate the gathered Scandinavian countries.
Both days - throughout the day - Tourneys: 1) SCA Holmgang tourney. 1 pt per duel fought, 3 points per win. Winner is on total points over the week-end. Depending on the SCA turn-out we may have more events, but I don't wish to exhaust the SCA fighters. 2) Dagorhir Holmgang tourney. 1 pt per duel fought, 3 points per win. Winner is on total points over the week-end. 3) Dagorhir 3 man melee tourney. 1 pt per melee fought, 1 point per survivor, 2 points per victory. Winner is on total points over the week-end. 4) Dagorhir style Viking Raid Tourney. Teams are of 5 to 6 men. Each side gets to play both Vikings & villagers. 4 minute rounds with resurrection. Loot will consist of stuffed Wench, cow, pig, chicken, & food. A fighter gets to carry only one piece of loot at a time. Each side gets one point per piece of loot in their base camp (the village or longship) or in control of the Vikings at the end of the round. Loot may not be removed off of the longship. Arts: 5) Bardic competition. Children & adult categories. 12:30 to 1:30 during the Viking feast luncheon any person who is interested will read their poetry & judges will determine the overall winner based on presentation as well as content. 6) Costume Competition for the best Viking Age Costume. Materials, presentation, theme, style, cut, & accoutrements are parts of the overall evaluation. Secret judges will be wandering the fair on both days.
