Totally new to the idea of Dagorhir, though not to swordfighting. I'm not the best, but I can swing a weapon. Mordor seems the closest to where I am, though I've got no idea what sort of garb to go for (Other than dark medievalish, of course), or where to find it before either of the renaissance festivals start up. Does Mordor in Ft. Collins have any heraldic symbols or common motifs? Is orcish skin necessary? Anything I should really know before I decide to join up?

Hey, Welcome to Dagorhir The realm of Mordor does not require any theme other than fantasy/dark ages style garb. (And half the time people don't even follow that theme ) You are more than welcome to show up in whatever is easy to fight in. We love to see new people. Bring water and a good attitude and you'll have an excellent time ! As for garb, the Indigo Rose in Fort Collins has some stuff that can pass as garb. There are a zillion websites out there. Or my Mother is offering her sewing skills for $10 an hour. You provide the fabric and the pattern. She'd prefer to go to Joann fabrics with you to pick out good fabric and thread etc.

That sounds good. I wasn't sure if armor was required. I'll probably check out what's online first, to see if I can find something in my current price range. I have a tunic, but no pants to go with it (I've got a skirt, but I'm sure I'd be tripping over it in no time). I do appreciate the offer, though. Are there any restrictions on (foam)weapons? Like which types are allowed and which aren't?

There really aren't any restrictions on weapons. As long as it is a legal weapon (not a forbidden weapon from the MoA) you will be good, but don't feel obligated to bring them out your first practice. It would save you money to come out and use our loaner gear and get a feel for what ever type of fighting you like. The only common motif or heraldic device is the Eye but you don't even have to be evil to fight with us. You don't HAVE to be an orc, you can even be an elf (shudder). Just let your imagination soar and stop out some time. The first Sunday of the month at Namaqua park is a practice to come out and have your first Dag experience

Don't worry about me coming out as an elf. I couldn't pass for one even if I had all the makeup and garb the world could offer. I think being a human barbarian would be more my style. Thank goodness you told me about the loaner gear! I was just looking over the weapon and shield designs from the dagorhir website and wondering how I was supposed to choose which one to make without actually trying them out. I'll definitely try to stop by, though, I'm more in the Fort Collins Area. ;D

Well, a few Ft collins people come down on Sundays and they have a practice up there as well. The Namaqua battle is the premier Colorado foam fighting event though. The first Sunday of every month, we all gather and have a good ole time. The April 5th Namaqua is going to be our season opener and there will be food, drinks, woods battles, tournys, prizes, the works. So that might help change your mind

I'll ask around, but I'm not sure I'll find anyone. Most are too scared of getting ostracized for being outside the norm. And, as for friends, I don't have that many, and none of them enjoy history or fantasy.
